Holloway's Marina & RV Park FAQs

Marina

  • Do we need to make a reservation?

Yes, please! Though this is not always a requirement, it is the only way to guarantee your boat, and it will streamline the process making it easier for everyone. We do charge at the time of reservation so if you are unsure of your plans, please review our cancellation policy which can be found in this FAQ section. Feel free to give us a call with any questions or if you are seeking advice.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

Reservations cancelled with 7 or more days notice will be eligible for a full refund

Reservations cancelled with less than 7 days but more than 48 hours will be eligible for a 50% refund

Reservations cancelled with less than 48 hours are not eligible for a refund.

  • Why can’t I make a reservation for tomorrow morning?

There is a time limit to making on-line reservations. Please give us a call.

  • What if I’m late for my reservation?

We book your reservation as a time slot, not a duration of time because we book rentals back to back throughout the day. For example, if you book a 2-hour rental from 2-4 pm, then you have reserved the boat only from 2-4 pm, and there is likely someone else at the dock ready to pick up the boat after it's been fueled and cleaned for their 4:15 pm reservation. In this case, we cannot adjust your time without cutting into theirs. In short, if you are late, you will be cutting into your own rental time.

We advise that all guests plan to arrive at least an hour ahead of their scheduled rental time and keep an eye on the traffic. If you are going to be late, give us a call to let us know. We will do everything in our power to accommodate you (short of taking time away from another customer).

  • Can you swim off the pontoon boats?

No, there is no swimming possible from any rental boat on Big Bear Lake as per the lake law. All swimming activities must be conducted within 50 ft of the shore, however, rental boats must stay in the middle of the 5 miles per hour zone of the lake which is approximately 200-300 ft away from shore and marked with white cylindrical buoys. We will be happy to point out some swimming areas on your map once you have returned from your rental!

  • May I pull a tube, a water skier, etc., from my rental powerboat, pontoon, or waverunner?

No, unfortunately on Big Bear Lake it is illegal to tow anything behind a rental vessel. However, we do offer this as a charter service with professional drivers and instructors if you want to brush up on your wakeboarding, waterskiing, wake surfing, and more. If you want to get out for some laughs on a tube, we’re plenty happy to book you a tubing charter as well!

  • Can I beach the boat or dock somewhere else?

No, all rental boats must stay in the middle of the 5 miles per hour zone of the lake which is approximately 200-300 ft away from shore and marked with white cylindrical buoys. The shoreline of Big Bear Lake is beautiful, but even in areas that look sandy or have docks, there are lots of boulders, weeds, and debris that hide just under the surface of the water. The lake level is regularly low, which may render certain docks unusable. To keep you having fun and to keep our boats afloat and running their best, we ask that you respect the distance rules and keep to deeper water. We’re happy to point out our favorite areas that you can enjoy safely - just ask at the dock!

  • What happens if there is a forecast of rain on the day of our rental?

In the case of inclement weather, we will strive to make your rental experience as enjoyable as possible.  In the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons, weather forecasts are very unpredictable.  Typically, rain showers that occur last less than an hour and our boats are equipped with Bimini tops that provide 30 to 40% coverage for protection from sun or rain.  Our rentals go out rain or shine and most people enjoy the adventure.   We do not offer cancellation refunds due to weather but we may offer restricted rain check vouchers or adjust your scheduled time slot to accommodate a short rain delay.

  • What are the differences between the pontoon boats?

The major difference between each boat category is the age of the boats. We have been growing our fleet for many years, and as a result, some of our boats are newer, and some are more “well-loved.” Our fishing pontoons are perfect for a family on a budget, looking to fish, or looking to bring pets along.

If you want to picnic, get a suntan, and lay out on the seats, the luxury boats have nicer upholstery and we provide portable bluetooth speakers. These are the best value for your money, but keep in mind we don’t allow fishing or pets onboard  the luxury boats.

We baby our luxury pontoons by keeping them covered unless you’re renting them, and they’re our newest models.

  • Can I bring alcohol onboard the boat?

Yes! However, you must also bring a designated driver who will remain sober. Boaters must follow the same laws as cars, and you can and will get a DUI for driving a boat under the influence. We encourage you to enjoy yourselves responsibly!

  • Can I bring food and beverages onboard?

Yes, absolutely! This is one of our top-recommended activities. No restaurant will have better views than your own private boat on the water. Ask us about table rentals if you would like to add one to your rental for this purpose. Additionally, our staff is ready with a list of favorite local eateries if you want to pick up some take-out on your way.

  • I have a large party, can we rent 2 boats?

Yes, we allow up to 2 boats.  But there are applicable rules and regulations that you need to know.  Please call before you book.

  • What’s the minimum age to rent? Who can drive?

You must be 18 or older with a valid driver’s license and credit card to rent or drive any vessels with us.

  • Do I need a driver’s license or a boater card?

Yes, you do need to present a valid driver’s license at the time of your rental.

No, you do not currently need a boater card. The state of California is in the process of changing some of these rules, and we will update our website accordingly if the time comes.

  • When will I get my deposit back?

We release your deposit the evening of your rental after the vessel has been safely returned to the dock in the same condition in which it left with you. HOWEVER, please keep in mind that your bank may hold an authorization of funds for an additional length of time (sometimes up to 30 days). We advise that you call your bank to understand their authorization limits and policies prior to your rental. Additionally, we recommend using a credit card for the authorization rather than a debit card to help regain your access to those funds a bit quicker.

  • Do you have Temporary slip rentals over the holidays?

    There is a one-week minimum.

Repair Shop

  • I need a part.

Do you have the part number? If you are able to provide us with the part number, it will help speed up the process.

We will notify you as soon as the work has been completed. If the status of your work order substantially changes, our team will notify you.

  • Will I be called if more work is required on my boat?

Yes, our shop will call you and discuss what additional work is required and get your approval.

  • When can I sign-up for Winterization or De-winterization of my boat?

You can sign-up at any time and the earlier that you can sign up the better. You need to come in to fill out paperwork, or you can email the shop hollowaysbilling@gmail.com and we can send you the paperwork.  If you are an existing customer, the paperwork will be sent to the address on file. Please update if the address or phone has changed.

  • I didn’t receive my paperwork to sign up for Winterizing/De-winterizing of my boat.

  • What is included in Winterization?

Preparing the engine for storage and freezing conditions. We will “fog” the carburetor and engine cylinders along with draining the water out of the block and using “antifreeze fluid” where needed.  Shrinkwrap, acid bath, or pressure washing are additional charges.

  • What is included in De-winterizing?

Depends on the type of motor.

Basic light service.  We will check fluids, battery, and reconnect hoses, etc.

Work completed by the shop will be billed upon completion.  Exception on large repair orders, whereby a deposit will be required.

To expedite and streamline our payment process, we will contact customers by phone for payment. Visa & MasterCard are accepted.  We do not accept Discover or American Express.

  • Things to know before launching your boat at Holloways Marina.

Our Marina launch ramp facility is only available to those customers who have reserved and paid for a slip or mooring buoy.

Before you launch, all watercraft, motorized or non-motorized, must have a Zebra / Quagga muscle inspection and be sealed and banded from Big Bear Lake.  Also, current state registration and a current Lake Permit must be obtained prior to launching.

We do offer slip holders and RV customers service to inspect your watercraft.  We strive to accommodate our customers in a timely manner, although, on occasion, you may be directed to our West or East public launch ramps for inspection and/or de-contamination.

We do not decontaminate if your boat fails the inspection. An appointment must be made with the Big Bear Municipal Water District at (909) 866-5796

    Trailer/Boat Storage

A minimum of 48-72 hours is required to remove a trailer/boat from our storage area after your boat has been repaired.  Additional storage can be arranged for a fee.

RV Park

  • What type of hookups do you have?

We have full hookup sites with water, electric, and sewer. All of our sites have at least 30-amp service with a few having 50-amp service. We no longer have cable TV. We do have limited “rural” internet service.

  • Is there internet service available?

Yes, there is internet service available at no charge. However, we are in a “rural” area and internet service is not as good as in a city environment with a strong service. Streaming live is discouraged, especially during busy periods where the internet infrastructure is being used by a lot of people. Basic internet service is good for emails, and non-streaming or high bandwidth activities.

  • Can I have a campfire?

The Fire Department only allows propane BBQ's and/or fire pits.  Wood or charcoal burning BBQ's and fire pits are not allowed.

  • Do you have Cable TV?

With the development of satellite dishes and the Internet, we no longer maintain Cable TV service.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

For individual short-term reservations (21 days or less), cancellations made more than two weeks before the scheduled arrival date will be elegible for a full refund less a $50 administrative/cancellation fee.

For long-term reservations (more than 21 days) and for group reservations (3 or more sites), cancellations made more than 30 days before the scheduled arrival date will be eligible for a refund less the $50 administrative/cancellation fee. Cancellations made 30 days or less before the scheduled arrival date will not receive any refund.

There will not be any refund or credit for departing early.

  • Is there a convenience store on-site?

Yes, we have a small convenience store on-site in the RV Park office. There are a few convenience items available from snacks, soda, beer, wine, and a few common grocery items.  There is also ice and a few RV hook-up supplies.

  • Are tents allowed?

Unfortunately, no, we cannot allow tent camping. Our permit is for RVs only.

  • Are there restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities available?

Yes, we have very clean and upgraded restroom facilities along with coin-operated showers and laundry facilities.

  • How do I reserve sites for a group?

You can call to make arrangements for a group reservation. You may also book sites online and note the family names that you are trying to book with. Please instruct your friends and family to also book online listing the names of the group you are with.

  • Are you pet-friendly?

Yes, we welcome any and all pets. There is a local leash law in effect and pet owners are required to clean up after their pets. The only evictions we’ve experienced are irresponsible pet owners, not the pets themselves.

  • What do I do if I have extra vehicles?

You will need to make arrangements with the office to either pay for extra parking or park off-site if you cannot fit all vehicles on your site.

  • Can I park my vehicle or any extra vehicles in the marina parking lot or any other area on the property?

Unfortunately, we do not have any areas for extra parking without a fee. If your vehicles do not fit on your RV site you will need to make arrangements with the RV office for extra parking.

  • Is there a discount for boat or slip rentals at the marina if we rent an RV site?

The Marina is a separate business from the RV Park. We do not give a discount on RV sites to boat or slip rental customers – and inversely we do not give a discount on boat or slip rentals to a customer who rents an RV site.

  • Can I launch a kayak or fish from my lakeside campsite?

Although you might have a lakeside campsite and a great view, there is no access to the lake from your campsite. You will need to make arrangements with the marina for access to the lake. You may rent a boat or slip from the marina to access the lake. You may also drive around the lake and locate areas to access the lake for free, especially along the North Shore.

  • Are there areas for children to play and ride their bikes or scooters?

Yes, there is a small playground with swings, playground equipment, picnic tables, a horseshoe pit, tetherball, and small ½ court basketball court. We require all persons to ride their bikes, scooters, golf carts, or any other equipment within their prospective camping area. The main driveway entrance, marina parking lot, and shop area are off-limits!
