    What to Expect

All paddle vessels in the lake are required to stay between the 5mph buoys and the shoreline, which is to say within approximately 100ft of the shoreline. This is a great way to slow down and admire the wildlife, scenes, and sights of Big Bear Lake.
The lake is known for having gusty winds in the afternoons, so it’s always best to get out and paddle in the early morning, or early evening. The wind usually kicks up around 10 or 11 am, though we’re nicely protected from the worst winds here in Metcalf Bay. You can clip at a leisurely pace, or check off your workout for the day - it’s up to you!
You’ll want to bring along sun protection, and fluids to stay hydrated, and clothes that you don’t mind getting wet. None of the kayaks or paddleboards have dry storage, so bring along a dry bag if you have one, or leave your valuables in your locked car and the office will store your keys while you’re out. We advise against bringing your furry companions along on the paddle vessels, though that decision is ultimately your responsibility.
